Angerstein Wharf, 2017 - ongoing
With its conveyor belts stretching out into the river Thames, and ever shifting mountains of aggregate, Angerstein Wharf feels other worldly. Since 2017 I’ve walked past it on the way to my studio and the cyclical forces, which the ebb and flow of the tide reveal, make it a fantastic location for attempting to visualise the passage of time within a drawing.
Angerstein Wharf offers a wonderful opportunity to move around industrial structures within an area of enormous flux. I drew it from many vantage points, seeing and feeling how my perception of the space and my relationship to the elemental and industrial forces altered each time. The drawings posted below build on the series I’d drawn in the previous year, further down river close to the Thames Barrier.
