Ebbing at full speed, the water parted at the base of each column. Continuously moving, but forming apparently solid ridges of water as it slid around each obstacle.
Shopping trolleys began to resurface, detritus that wasn’t stuck fast in the mud shot off down river.
From this distance, hovering on the horizon between the columns, the forms of the Thames Barrier and Tate & Lyle factory became interwoven.
Despite the presence of huge industrial forces, the river’s ceaseless energy dominates. I am always amazed at how it never appears to pause once it has reached high or low tide, instead beginning to flood or ebb all over again.
