Thames Barrier, 2017

The stretch of the river Thames between North Greenwich & Woolwich is an extraordinary area, constantly in flux: new developments encroach eastward down river; the tide relentlessly reveals and obliterates river bed and detritus; industrial structures alternate between dereliction & those still moving vast quantities of aggregate from ship to land.

I moved my studio in 2017 to a site near to the Thames Barrier, in order to get closer to the river and spend time observing its many states. I wanted each drawing to be a trace of the many moments in time which unfolded around me as I drew, revealing the constant interactions between massive man-made &  natural forces.
