Alexandra Blum, ‘Summer into Autumn’, graphite on paper, 29.7 x 42 cm, 2021Throughout this series of drawings I’ve used layered forms and jumps in scale to record fragments of looking, some of which are slow and closely observed, others rapidly jotted down. I’d like anyone who looks at the drawings to be able to choose their own route through the space, discovering glimpses of activity as their eye travels through the network of lines and patches of tone. This is a response to my interest in spatial structures in Early Netherlandish painting and a response to reflecting upon Carlo Rovelli’s description of the world as a network of events within his book ‘The Order of Time’, (translation first published Allen Lane 2018).Scroll down to see close ups of ‘Summer into Autumn’ ...
